Advanced Spam/Virus Protection
With Roundcube you can configure your antispam preferences in the Junk settings.
You have full control of SpamAssassin settings: you can decide when a message is spam, where to put spam messages and when to remove them from the Junk folder.
Log in to Roundcube with your email address and password, then click the settings icon (the gear at the top right) and choose Junk.
General Settings
Score threshold: determines when incoming mail is marked and treated as spam, the default is 6.
Use lower values to make SpamAssassin more aggressive, higher values to make it less aggressive.
How to treat Junk folder
[Number of days] = Spam is moved to the Junk folder and purged after this many days, SpamAssassin uses these Junk mails to learn and improve. This is the *recommended* option with a value of 10 days.
Empty = Spam is moved to the Junk folder and purged after 90 days, SpamAssassin does NOT learn and improve.
No = Spam is NOT moved to the Junk folder.
Language Options: select the languages you expect to receive email in. Messages written in other languages are treated as possible spam.
Click Save to apply your changes.
Internet Based Junk Tests: some checks use internet services (Razor, Pyzor, DCC, Realtime Blackhole List) to help identify spam. Select the ones you wish to use.
Bayes Settings: the Bayesian classifier learns from your mail. With auto learn, messages scoring below the Non junk threshold teach it what good mail looks like, messages above the Junk threshold teach it what spam looks like.
Message Headers and Report Settings: how SpamAssassin writes its results in the headers of the message and how the report is attached. The default values are fine for most users.
Address Rules (whitelist and blacklist): choose Accept Mail From or Reject Mail From, write the address and click Add Rule, then Save. An asterisk (*) can be used as a wild card, e.g. *@example.com.
We recommend you add your contacts to the whitelist: their mail will never be marked as spam.
Test Scores: for advanced users, the score of single SpamAssassin tests can be changed. Leave the default values if you are not sure.
Notes.
When a mailbox has active Mail filters (reserved area, Mail filters), spam is not moved to the Junk folder automatically: keep the suggested "Spam" rule at the top of your filters. SpamAssassin still checks every message and marks spam with an additional header, see note below (*)
(*) Only mails marked as Spam contain the "X_Spam_score" header.
